Bush and Beach

Safari & Zanzibar

Finish the plains and the crater on the Indian Ocean. It's the most natural way to end a Tanzania trip — and the easiest to get wrong if the order and the flights aren't planned properly.

Safari First, Beach Second

Safari days start before dawn and cover a lot of ground. Zanzibar afterwards gives your trip a proper ending rather than a rushed departure straight from the bush.

We hold the internal flights, transfers and hotel timings together so the handover from bush to beach is a single arrangement instead of three bookings you have to reconcile yourself.

  • Typically 5 – 8 days on safari, then 3 – 5 nights on the coast
  • Short scheduled flights instead of long road transfers
  • Coast and hotel chosen for tides, swimming and who's travelling

On the Island

What to Do on Zanzibar

Stone Town

Narrow streets, carved doors, spice markets and a food scene worth an evening on its own.

Reef and water

Snorkelling and diving on the reefs, plus dhow sailing at sunset from the north and east coasts.

Spice farms

A short inland drive explains why the island shaped centuries of trade.

Jozani Forest

Home to the endemic red colobus monkey and an easy half-day from the coast.

Nakupenda and Mnemba

Sandbank and reef excursions for clear water and long, slow afternoons.

Simply resting

Frankly the point. After early game drives, several days of doing very little is the best part.

Bush & Beach Questions

Almost always safari first, beach second. Early game drives are demanding and the coast is the natural place to slow down afterwards.

Short scheduled flights connect Arusha, Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti airstrips with Zanzibar. We build the connection into your itinerary so you are not managing transfers yourself.

Three to five nights suits most travellers: enough to rest, see Stone Town and spend real time in the water without the trip feeling stretched.

The north-east and east coasts are best for beach time and water sports, the north for swimming at all tides, and Stone Town for history and food. We match the coast to what you want from those days.

Both, though the right hotel differs a great deal. Tell us who is travelling and we'll suggest accommodation that fits rather than a one-size-fits-all resort.
