Kilimanjaro
Best Kilimanjaro Route for Beginners
Why route length matters more than route difficulty, and which trails we recommend for a first climb.

Length beats difficulty
None of the standard routes are technical. What separates a good climb from a hard one is acclimatisation, which comes down to how many nights you spend gaining altitude gradually.
Our recommendations
Lemosho over eight days: the best combination of scenery and acclimatisation for a first climb.
Machame over seven days: shorter, dramatic and efficient.
Northern Circuit over nine days: the gentlest altitude profile of all, if you have the time.
On success rates
We do not publish summit statistics, because honest figures depend on route, season and group. We would rather talk you through the acclimatisation profile and how our guides monitor you daily.
