What a safari day looks like
Early wake-up, coffee, and out at first light when animals are most active. Back to camp for brunch and a rest through the hot midday hours, then out again until dusk.
Full-day drives with a picnic lunch are common in the Serengeti and on crater days.
Camps and lodges
Tented camps are far more comfortable than the word suggests: proper beds, hot bucket or plumbed showers and excellent food.
Lodges offer solid walls, pools and often family rooms. Both work; it is a question of the experience you want.
Practicalities
Most travellers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport. Visas are available in advance online, and yellow fever requirements depend on your route.
Roads inside parks are rough by design. A good vehicle, a good guide and reasonable expectations make all the difference.
